Dal 2020 il Carol Rama Award viene assegnato all’artista che meglio interpreta attraverso la propria ricerca l’ideale di creatività femminile non-convenzionale e di libertà artistica che le opere e la personalità di Carol Rama incarnavano e trasmettevano con straordinaria forza.
Il Carol Rama Award è la trasformazione del Premio Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future, nato nel 2014 in partnership con Artissima. Il premio è promosso e finanziato dalla Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte presieduta da Pinuccia Sardi per il sostegno dell’arte moderna e contemporanea. La nuova veste del premio ha preso avvio dal sempre rinnovato interesse di Pinuccia Sardi per la ricerca artistica di Carol Rama, confluito in anni recenti anche nell’importante sostegno al catalogo ragionato delle opere dell’artista e nell’acquisto dei beni contenuti nella casa-studio di Torino.
Since its inception in 2020, the Carol Rama Award is given to the artist whose practice best reflects the ideal of unconventional female creativity and artistic freedom that Carol Rama’s works embodied, and which her personality conveyed with such extraordinary force. The Carol Rama Award is the continuation of the Premio Sardi per l’Arte – Back to the Future award, initiated in 2014 in partnership with Artissima. The award is promoted and funded by the Fondazione Sardi per l’Arte, chaired by Pinuccia Sardi, with the aim of lending support to modern and contemporary art. The new format of the award is the result of Pinuccia Sardi’s enduring interest in Carol Rama’s artistic practice. In recent years this interest has also led to significant support for a catalogue raisonné of Rama’s work and the purchase of possessions from the artist’s home-studio in Turin.

La quarta edizione del Carol Rama Award, è stato assegnato all’artista Marwa Arsanios, che ha interpretato, attraverso la sua ricerca e il suo lavoro, l’ideale di creatività femminile non convenzionale e la libertà artistica che Carol Rama incarnava e trasmetteva con le sue opere e la sua personalità.
The fourth edition of Carol Rama Award was conferred to Marwa Arsanios, the artist who embodies, through research and work, the ideal of unconventional female creativity and artistic freedom Carol enacted and transmitted with her works and personality.

La terza edizione del Carol Rama Award è stato assegnato all’artista ucraina Anna Perach che attraverso la sua ricerca realizza sculture indossabili, figure ibride e antropomorfe che abitano e costituiscono ogni volta spazi installativi e performativi definiti attraverso una dimensione straniante e surreale.
The third edition of the Carol Rama Award was conferred on Ukrainian artist Anna Perach, who creates wearable sculptures, hybrid and human-like figures that shape her installations and performances and inhabit an alienating and surreal dimension.

2021
La seconda edizione del Carol Rama Award è stato assegnato all’artista italiana Ivana Spinelli che interpreta, un’ideale di creatività femminile non-convenzionale. In particolare l’artista, attraverso la riscrittura e la riprogettazione, si riappropria di un linguaggio arcaico che ruota attorno alla figura di una divinità. Il linguaggio di una società protostorica, egualitaria e matriarcale è portato nel presente attraverso sculture, disegni, tele ed azioni performative fino ad arrivare a forme di comunicazione digitale.
The second edition of the Carol Rama Award was conferred on Italian artist Ivana Spinelli who incarnates an unconventional ideal of female creativity. In particular, the artist seeks to reclaim the archaic language that revolves around the figure of the deity, and does this through a process of reformulating languages and structures. The language of a proto-historic, matriarchal and egalitarian society is transposed to present times through sculptures, drawings, canvases and performative actions, and even comprises forms of digital communication.

La prima edizione del Carol Rama Award ha premiato Zehra Doğan, artista e attivista curda con cittadinanza turca, per la straordinaria capacità nel suo lavoro di tradurre un’esperienza fortemente contestualizzata, attingendo a molteplici eredità estetiche. In relazione con l’opera di Carol Rama e con l’intenzione del Premio di trasmettere la sua idea non convenzionale di creatività e libertà artistica , la giuria ha trovato una risonanza nell’approccio di Doğan e in particolare nella sua appropriazione strategica di materiali trovati nell’ambiente circostante.
The first edition of the Carol Rama Award was handed to Zehra Doğan, a Kurdish artist and activist of Turkish citizenship, for her extraordinary ability to translate a highly contextualized experience into works that draw from multiple aesthetic legacies. The jury felt that Carol Rama’s work, and the Award’s intention to convey her unconventional idea of creativity and artistic freedom, resonated in Doğan’s approach as well as in her strategic appropriation of the materials sourced from her surroundings.
